Your Questions Answered Clearly and Concisely
Do you take insurance?
We are out of network with insurance companies. We find that in order to provide the level of care that we find most effective and most valuable to our clients, the insurance model unfortunately does not work. Insurance too often dictates what can and can’t be done during a session, and we feel it is a necessity to treat based off our examination findings and the client’s specific needs, rather than only doing what we know insurance will pay for.
Clients will pay us directly at the time of service. However, some clients will send our receipts to their provider in an attempt to get reimbursed for the “out of network” services. Those receipts all are coded with the necessary insurance codes. We also have many clients who use FSA or HSA cards to pay.
I’ve been to many PT’s and Chiros in the past and have not been satisfied/did not see results. How are you different/why should I come to your clinic?
At Fiola Sports we pride ourselves at being outliers in the sports medicine field. We want to take things a step further and determine WHY our client is experiencing the pain they have, rather than just focusing on WHERE they have that pain.
In our experience, the most effective way to truly fix a problem is to take a more “all-inclusive approach”, where we use muscle work, exercise/movement re-education, and chiropractic (when needed but NOT ALWAYS). This approach allows us to avoid merely applying temporary “band-aids” to areas with pain. We see A LOT of clients who have been “everywhere else” and our biggest successes come when we ensure that we are their last stop. In a two week period of time, we should be able to know if we will be able to truly fix the root cause and the symptom. If we see that things are not responding as hoped/expected, we will have a good sense of where that client needs to go from our office so they aren’t wandering aimlessly in the sea of healthcare providers, not knowing where or who to see. We have established a large network of various specialists and work to ensure our patients find the right treatment to address their issue.
I’m concerned about price, how many visits do you think I will need?
Where we truly separate ourselves from the “normal” healthcare experience is through our patient education. During the first two weeks of assessment and treatment, we often see new patients 2x/week (VERY RARELY more than that). We then taper off to 1x/week and hopefully continue to space out the visits more and more until our client “graduates” from our care.
The education in the first two weeks of treatment is the most important element of limiting our patient dependence on office visits. By letting our patient know what is wrong with them, how it happened, and how THEY can fix the root problem through exercise and movement corrections, they are in the driver’s seat to limiting how often they feel they need to come in for a visit.
We find when we compare this model to the “standard” approach of 3x/week for 6-8 weeks of PT/chiro visits, the financial burden does not seem as drastic.
I have practice/a game today, can I still play?
It is very common for athletes to attend practice/games on the same day as a treatment session, as long as we have discussed the post-treatment expectations with that athlete. This also may be dependent on the injury and how far along we are into treatments. But, for the most part, we do our best to limit time away from sports for our athletes.
What is Active Release Technique (A.R.T.)?
Active Release Technique, commonly referred to as “A.R.T.”, is a deep tissue approach to breaking up scar tissue/adhesions found in muscles. Often used to address chronic and acute injuries along with postural abnormalities, we utilize this technique A LOT at the office. It allows us to expedite the healing new injuries and also to restore normal healthy muscle tone/function to an area that has been problematic for a longer period of time. Clients often describe it as “hurting so good”.
What is the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certification?
A golf specific certification that is used with some of our golf clients to detect and correct issues within their body/biomechanics that may be altering or getting in the way of their golf swing. This is used in conjunction with our normal evaluation and treatment process, it is not a specialized visit.
